a special word about black friday

I know there may be some of you wondering why an eco-friendly business is participating in the mass-consumerism movement that is Black Friday.

Well, we've thought long and hard about it and have come to the following conclusions.

Whilst Black Friday may be seen as a vehicle for encouraging mass consumer spending and the concept of excess, we see it as an opportunity to try to make our products more accessible (for a short period) for consumers.

This year, more than ever, we believe that to be true. It continues to be a tough one for many, and we want to be able to help in whatever way that we can.

We're very aware of the fact that eco-friendly and organic products tend to cost more money and may not be affordable for every family. So, while you may be wanting to give something a try, it simply may not fit into the budget.

By participating in Black Friday, it's my hope that if you've had your eye on something that may have been out of reach prior to the promotion, you may be able to grab it for you or your family now.

In keeping with this sentiment, we firmly believe in buying less, but choosing well. Our products are of the highest quality and built to withstand the test of time. We hope that, while they may cost more money, you will be prompted to choose something of higher quality, and buy less "things".

And, finally, at the end of the day, we are a retail business. The Black Friday movement has grown extensively over the past few years in New Zealand and Australia.

While we may not 100% agree with everything that it stands for, at the end of the day, we're a retailer (and a retailer trying to operate in a recession in a post-COVID environment), and promotions such as this have become customer expectation (and, again, this year it seems that customers are counting on it more than ever).

Being a small business, we find it crucial to participate in this promotional period. It's the trend in consumer spending at the moment, so we need to ride the trend to be successful during the holidays as well.

It's our hope that consumer buying trends may change over the coming years, as people continue to become more aware of the impact of overconsumption in our society. These trends, sales, and promotions are 100% driven by consumer spending habits.

Until that time, though, for the health of our business, we need to participate in some capacity. Unfortunately, given our small size, we're not going to change those habits alone. So, we're seeing it as our opportunity to assist people in making greener choices for their family and the environment (and making them more accessible), while making their consumer choices this holiday season.

Thank you for your understanding!
